This blog is an attempt to document my chess journey, both past and present, with a look to future plans of achieving the USCF Expert rating. One of the tools that is frequently mentioned as a means to improvement is the analysis of one’s games, yet it is something that I rarely bothered to do. The hope is that by posting my games to the blog I will be more inclined to go through them, and by writing out my thoughts on each game I can focus on and internalize those elements that I need to keep in mind when playing. For example, if I notice that I seem to miss opportunities in the endgame, I will spend more of my limited study time on that part of the game, instead of obsessing on openings (which has been my tendency thus far).
But games will not be the only thing I will blog about, because that would be boring. And chess is not my only interest in life (although it has consumed more of my life than I care to admit). Since I try to spare my wife the complaints I have over politics or other frustrations, this will also be my outlet to vent and whine. Hey, no one is forcing you to read this blog (at least I hope not). There may even be some comic relief, which can be found in abundance in the topic of chess politics (two things that seem to go together like gasoline and styrofoam).
So basically anything is fair game, but we’re mostly concerned with bishops, knights and mates.
